When Ashley first came last Nov (for my head start classes), she had been just passing her school math tests and exams. But she asked many questions in class and asked for more work even though her school already gave her quite a lot of homework.
Unlike some students from IP schools, Ashley is humble and would accept being told that she lacks the basics in some topics and she would brush up on those topics. That is the way to improve in math.
Is there also any special technique that I use in my math classes? Yes. It’s called METACOGNITION. In the context of math, it is called Metacognitive Problem Solving. And I teach my students to apply Metacognitive Learning.
