We provide A-Level / H2 and O-Level Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Science (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) Practical training for private / school candidates and homeschoolers, for both local (eg. H2, Singapore-Cambridge) and international exams (CIE, IGCSE). School candidates are also welcome.
*Enjoy huge discounts on fees if your lab sessions start in January! Send a message to 88765498 for details.
MOE/SEAB SYLLABUS FOR O-LEVEL BIOLOGY PRACTICAL
Paper 3 (Practical) is weighted to 20% of the assessment.
Candidates are expected to have been exposed to a range of topics and experimental techniques such as:
- Simple physiological experiments, involving tests for food substances, enzyme reactions,
hydrogencarbonate indicator solution, cobalt(II) chloride paper and so on - Simple physiological experiments, involving the use of sharp instruments on plant or animal
materials (accurate observations of these specimens will need a hand lens of not less than X6
magnification for each candidate) - Manipulative skills in assembling apparatus, in using chemical reagents and in using such
instruments as mounted needles, scalpels and razor blades, forceps and scissors - Measurements using appropriate instruments (e.g. thermometer, syringe, measuring cylinder, ruler
and so on) and simple arithmetical calculations - Familiar and unfamiliar techniques to record observations and make deductions from them
- Recognition and observation of features of familiar and unfamiliar biological specimens, recording
observations and making deductions about functions of whole specimens or their parts - Clear line drawings of the specimens provided, indicating magnification and labelling familiar
structures
This is not intended to be an exhaustive list. Candidates are expected to be familiar with the use of
data-loggers.
OUR STRUCTURED PRACTICAL TRAINING SYSTEM
Based on the above syllabus, we have several structured programs for you, depending on whether you are a private or school candidate.
PRIVATE CANDIDATES
If you are a private candidate, for each subject, you must complete 4 Basic practicals (preferably by 15 Apr) plus a further 2 Exam-Paper-Style practicals, before we issue you a certificate to acknowledge that you have completed a sufficient amount of practical training necessary for your actual exam. Beyond these 6 practical sessions, you may also opt to attend our Practical Crash Courses and our Practical Mock Exams in June, September or October.
SCHOOL CANDIDATES
If you are a current school candidate, you may select any of the training labs found in our schedule, and you are strongly encouraged to sign up early for our Practical Crash Courses and our Practical Mock Exams which will be held in June, September or October.
OUR BIOLOGY PRACTICAL SCHEDULE (Jan to Oct)
*Other labs, such as PB11-PB12, are also available for those who want further training or as mock exams.
Practical Days: All days except Monday.
Practical Timings:
Tue & Wed: 10.30am-12.30pm | 2pm-4pm | 6pm-8pm (or later upon request)
Thu: 10.30am-12.30pm | 2pm-4pm
Fri: 10.30am-12.30pm | 2.30pm-4.30pm | 6pm-8pm (or later upon request)
Sat: 10.30am-12.30pm | 2pm-4pm | 6pm-8pm (or later upon request)
Sun: 12pm-2pm | 3pm-5pm | 6pm-8pm (or later upon request)
IMPORTANT POINTS TO NOTE:
The above is the ideal schedule for students who want to excel in their Biology practical exams, by starting in Jan and having a final practical revision or mock exam in Oct. The practical sessions are well spread out, giving students time to study the theory components as well as other subjects. Thus it is highly recommended that you commence your practical training in January.

CRASH COURSE AND MOCK EXAMS (Jun, Sep, Oct)
O-LEVEL PURE BIOLOGY HANDS-ON PRACTICAL CRASH COURSE
SCIENCE (BIOLOGY) HANDS-ON PRACTICAL CRASH COURSE
MOCK EXAMS FOR SCIENCE PRACTICAL
PAST TOPICS OF O-LEVEL BIOLOGY PRACTICAL:
2022: Enzymes (yeast), Heredity, Drawing and Magnification
2023:
Q1: Suspension of Yeast, pH indicator, enzyme reactions, anaerobic and aerobic respiration mentioned. 15 step long experiment, 3 tables (8 mark) + 1 bar graph (4 mark) Suggesting 2 sources of error( 2 mark), suggest how to improve 1 error (that is not what you had suggested before) so 3 errors total (3 mark). Mean calculation of results involved. Experiments includes 1 normal temperature water bath, 1 warm bath, pH indicator (green turns yellow when acidic), 5cm3 gas syringe for pH indicator, 10cm3 gas syringe attached to a long plastic tube, have to place yeast suspension into the 10cm3 gas syringe after heating with warm bath and cool bath at 35 degree celsius (2cm3 of air + 8cm3 of yeast suspension in syringe) and use long tubing to attached to the syringe and place in pH indicator.
Yeast suspensions : 15% yeast and 10% yeast suspension, 5x conducted for each, 10 repeated experiment in total. Only one 2 mark Qn for planning, 1 mark for describing constant variable, 1 mark for definition of constant variable (I think)
Q2: High power drawings of villi, 5 mark question on how the structure of intestine aids absorption. Calculating mean in mm and 3 mark calculation of magnification of 20 000x. Describing function of mucus on villi (1 mark). No magnification, no food tests, 1 mark enzyme question.
What you will get at each practical session:
(1) Teaching and instruction on how to use the various scientific tools and instruments.
(2) Tips on how to answer a practical worksheet or exam paper, including recording of observations, drawing graphs, writing conclusions, describing precautions and planning a practical.
(3) Notes on important aspects of science practicals.
