We’ve heard that A-Level students want General Paper support but not necessarily in the form of full lessons or lectures.

To balance the other A-Level subjects and co-curricular joys and challenges, what might be more needed are efficient, meaningful discussions and advice that aid students’ consolidation of their knowledge and skills. After all, our brains crave order, independence, some good conversation – better yet, without breaking the bank.

So in 2025, students who either take
TWO H2/H1 subjects (theory or at least 4 practical sessions per subject)
OR ONE H2/H1 subject + ONE science practical subject (taking at least 4 sessions)
@SingaporeLearner(SL) will be entitled to 2 complimentary GP consultations on Zoom.

Consultations run on selected days weekly from mid-May to mid-Sept 2025.
A booking link will be given to eligible students to meet our guest coach, an ex-MOE GP teacher of over 20 years.

Singapore Learner has been a Comprehensive Science Practical Training provider since 2017.

As at 19 Apr 2026, we have trained about 1060 students for their science practical exams and we have conducted a total of about 4044 lab sessions.

Our laboratory apparatus are exam-grade and similar to those used in MOE schools and our chemicals are all NEA-approved.

REGISTRATION FEE: $65 (one-time, non-refundable)

The practical fees PER SESSION are as listed below (in general, your practical fees are lowest if you commence in Nov, followed by Dec, then Jan then Feb).

As you will need about 10 practical sessions per subject to be ready for your practical exams, you are strongly advised to begin your practical training in the Nov-Feb period.

If you are a MEMBER of Singapore Learner, you can enjoy a 10% discount off the usual fees (see PROMOTIONS for other details).

A 10% fee discount is also given to students who register together with siblings or friends, or who take multiple subjects. Ask our Admin for the details by sending a message to 88765498.

These Special QA Revision sessions are meant for participants of our QA Competition:

Topics which will be covered in these 1.5 hr sessions:

How to test for a Cation (the only possible cations tested in this competition are H(+), Al3(+), NH4(+), Ca(2+), Cu(2+), Fe(2+), Fe(3+) and Zn(2+)).
How to test for a Anion (the only possible anions tested in this competition are OH(-), CO3(2-), Cl(-), NO3(-) and SO4(2-)).
How to test for a Gas (the only possible gases tested in this competition are ammonia, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen)
Tips and techniques on how to excel in the competition.

The Event: Chemistry QA Competition Nov 2024

The Task: Identify the cation and anion in a given chemical compound, with experimental evidence recorded in a given worksheet.

The Winner: The person who completes The Task correctly in the shortest time.

Eligibility: Open to all students of chemistry aged 15 to 18.

REGISTRATION FOR THIS COMPETITION CLOSES AT 5PM ON MON 25/11/2024.

Competition Dates: 27/11, 28/11

Venue: Singapore Learner (Blk 644, Bukit Batok Central, #01-68, S(650644))

Time Slots: 10am, 11am, 12pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm.

Participation fee: $90 per person.

Max. no of participants per session: 10.

Max. no of participants for whole competition: 150.

Who should participate in this competition?

Current Sec 3/ Y3 students of Pure and Combined Chemistry who have studied QA and will be taking the chemistry practical exam next year. They will benefit from the training and further exposure to QA techniques and get rewarded for learning and having fun with safe chemicals.
Current Sec 4/ Sec 5 students of Pure and Combined Chemistry, since their knowledge of QA is still fresh.
Current JC1 students of H2 Chemistry who will be taking the chemistry practical exam next year. They will benefit from their revision of QA techniques and get rewarded for their learning efforts.
Current JC2 students of H2 Chemistry, since their knowledge of QA is still fresh.
O-level and A-level students of Chemistry who are private candidates (aged 15 to 18). They will benefit from the training and further exposure to QA techniques and get rewarded for their learning efforts.

Please note that the Cation and Anion selected for this QA competition are such that ANY student of chemistry aged 15 to 18 will be able to identify these ions using basic techniques of QA.

Prizes & Rewards:

The winner will receive a brand new iPhone 16.

The 1st runner-up will receive TEN transferable Singapore Learner Science Practical Vouchers worth $50 each.

Every other participant will receive ONE transferable Singapore Learner Science Practical Voucher worth $50 each.

Note: The first and second runners-up must have also correctly identified the cation and the anion in the given compound.

Early Bird Promotions:

The first 20 participants to register for the competition will get a FREE 1.5-hour Special QA Revision (worth $80) which will be held some time between 15/11 and 23/11.

Revising and Training for the QA Competition:

Participants are expected to revise their Qualitative Analysis knowledge and skills to enhance their chances of winning or doing well in the competition.

To further enhance their chances of winning or doing well in the competition, participants are encouraged to sign up (Fee: $80 but Free for 1st 20 participants) for our 1.5-hour Special QA Revision sessions which will be held some time between 15/11 and 23/11. These revision sessions will provide tips on how to do QA in a fast, efficient and correct manner, covering the skills and techniques needed to excel in this competition as well as in all chemistry practical exams involving QA.

Main Features, Rules and Regulations:

Max time allowed is 30 mins.
No HP to be used by participants, and no photo taking or video taking by participants or visitors.
Winner will be announced one day after the final day of the competition and will be posted on our website, following which there will be a simple prize giving and photo-taking ceremony.
Each day will be a different compound.
A person can participate only once in the same competition.
Photos and/or videos of participants doing the competition tasks may be taken by a staff member of Singapore Learner.

How to participate:

Book a slot (date and time) by paying participation fee (see details in the next section).
Sign up (Optional) for our 1.5-hr Special QA Revision session (Fee: $80 but Free for 1st 20 participants)
Turn up on time for your slot.
Show your NRIC or Student Pass to the timekeeper for name and age verification.
Hand over all your electronic devices (e.g. smart watch, hand phone) to the timekeeper for safekeeping.
Proceed to your assigned table.
Once you are seated and given the test compound, your competition time will start and it will be recorded next to your name.
You can use any chemicals and apparatus provided on your table for your tests but please avoid wastage.
For each ion that you identify, you must record the test you conducted and the observation you made that provided the evidence for your conclusion.
Once you are done testing and recording, please take your worksheet and hand it over to the timekeeper who will immediately record your end time, after which you may leave the centre. (Please note you’d have to stop your experiment if you exceed 30 mins)

Background of the tutor:

The tutor graduated from NUS with a BSc (Honours) with a Major in Chemistry and a Minor in Biology and has been working part time in the tuition industry, facilitating practical lessons and tutoring theory in both O Levels and A Levels students in both Chemistry and Biology. The former MOE teacher is a passionate educator who believes in making lessons digestible and simplifying the topics for learners by using various teaching methods. FAQ:

Why the SMALL size class?

The small size class allows me to give my full attention to every student! This allows not only me to identify every student’s weaknesses easily, but can also allow the student to fully focus for every 2 hour sessions.

What do you mean by “INCLUSIVE”?

I always strongly believe that every student is equal, no matter which school they come from nor the type of candidate they are. We welcome students from neighbour JCs (including MI), or private candidates who wants additional revisions and practices, or even any student under the H1 syllabus. The inclusive environment allows every student to learn without feeling discriminated, allowing effective and efficient learning for everybody.

Why do you allow students to be able to ask about their OWN school work?

Since they are about 15 pre-uni institutes, every school comes out with variety of questions to access. While some of it’s difficulty is comparable to the A-Level Examination, some of it’s difficulty could challenge the student. As such, I would take this opportunity to break down the question for the students, and teach them ANSWERING TECHNIQUES that could help them answer these questions before any examination. This allows any student to be able to approach the questions without any fail, so that they are able to score well!

What do you mean by “SIMPLIFIED and COMPREHENSIVE” notes?

After looking through multiple assessment books and pre-uni institutes notes (They are no textbooks for A Levels!), the student may feel overwhelmed and not too sure what exactly to study for their A Levels. Hence, the IN-HOUSE NOTES, complied by me, is SIMPLIFIED for the students so that they have a higher confident to study for the subject. It is also COMPREHENSIVE so that student from ANY LEVEL are able to learn by re-read the notes. Of course, note-taking skills will also be taught so that the students can learn more effectiveely through the notes!

What are the fee discounts offered here?

As SL is offering JC Chemistry Tuition, enrolling in both subjects allows the monthly fee of JUST 700 for both (Original 800)! Additionally, since SL is THE CENTRE for PRACTICAL & practical is worth 20 % of the total exam marks, discounts can be applied for any of the practical sessions! (Referral System TBC).
